There is no visa-on-arrival facility for ordinary Indian passport holders.

Understanding the specific requirements and streamlined application process is crucial for a smooth entry into this dynamic city-state.

Types of Singapore Visas for Indian Citizens

For short-term visits, Indian citizens typically apply for one of two main types:

  1. Social Visit Visa (Tourist Visa): This is the most common visa for Indian citizens traveling for leisure, holidays, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends. It generally allows for short-term stays, typically up to 30 days per entry, though the overall visa validity (e.g., 1 to 2 years) can permit multiple entries.

  2. Business Visit Visa: For those traveling to Singapore for business purposes, such as attending meetings, conferences, trade fairs, or business discussions. The duration of stay is also typically up to 30 days per entry.

There are also other visa types like Student Visas and Work Visas (Employment Pass, S Pass, etc.) for longer stays, each with their own specific and more extensive requirements.

Key Requirements for Indian Applicants

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore, through its authorized agents, has specific requirements for visa applications from India. These include:

  1. Duly Completed Form 14A: This is the primary visa application form, which must be fully completed in English and signed by the applicant. All columns and blank spaces should be filled.

  2. Valid Passport:

    • Original passport valid for at least six months from your intended date of entry into Singapore.

    • Must have at least two blank pages.

    • Copies of the biodata page (first page) and the last page of your passport.

    • If you have old passports, copies of any previous Singapore visas or other relevant visas (e.g., Schengen, US, UK) might be helpful to show travel history.

  3. Recent Passport-Sized Color Photographs:

    • Two recent photographs (taken within the last three months).

    • Size: 35mm x 45mm.

    • White background.

    • Matt or semi-matt finish.

    • Full face visible, looking straight at the camera.

    • No headgear (unless for religious purposes, which must not hide facial features).

  5. Confirmed Flight Itinerary: Round-trip flight tickets showing your entry and exit from Singapore. It's generally advised not to purchase non-refundable tickets before visa approval.

  6. Proof of Accommodation: Hotel bookings or a detailed itinerary showing your accommodation plans for the entire duration of your stay.

  7. Proof of Financial Means: While not always explicitly listed as a mandatory upfront document for all applications, it's highly recommended to carry:

    • Bank statements (last 3-6 months), showing sufficient funds.

    • Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the last two assessment years.

    • Salary slips (last 3 months) if employed.

    • These documents demonstrate your ability to cover your expenses in Singapore.

  8. Covering Letter: A personal letter signed by the applicant (or on company letterhead for business trips) stating the purpose of visit, duration of stay, proposed dates, and passport details.

  9. Occupation-Specific Documents:

    • For Employed: No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer, employment contract, and company ID.

    • For Self-Employed/Business Owners: Certificate of registration of the company (MOA/Proof of Proprietorship/Partnership deed, etc.), covering letter on company letterhead.

    • For Students: Enrollment certificate from your educational institution and NOC from school/college.

The Application Process for Indian Citizens

The Singapore visa application process for Indian citizens is largely electronic and must be done through Authorized Visa Agents (AVAs) appointed by the Singapore High Commission/Consulate-General in India. Direct walk-in applications at the Embassy/Consulate are generally not accepted.

  1. Gather Documents: Collect all the necessary documents as per the requirements for your specific visa type. Ensure all documents are in English or accompanied by certified English translations.

  2. Contact an Authorized Visa Agent: Find a list of AVAs on the official website of the Singapore High Commission/Consulate-General in India (e.g., in Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi). These agents are responsible for online submission on your behalf.

  3. Submit Documents to AVA: Provide all your physical documents to the chosen Authorized Visa Agent. They will verify your documents and initiate the online application.

  4. Pay Fees:

    • Visa Processing Fee: SGD 30 (approximately INR 1,900-2,000, subject to exchange rates). This fee is non-refundable regardless of the application outcome.

    • Authorized Visa Agent Service Fee: INR 650 (fixed by the Consulate/High Commission) in addition to the visa processing fee. Some agents might have additional administrative charges, so clarify all costs upfront.

    • Fees are typically paid to the AVA upon application submission.

  5. Await Processing: The AVA will submit your application electronically to the ICA.

  6. Receive e-Visa: If approved, your visa will be issued as an e-Visa (electronic visa). The AVA will provide you with a copy of your e-Visa via email. No physical sticker will be affixed to your passport.

Processing Time

The standard processing time for a Singapore visa application submitted through an Authorized Visa Agent is generally 3 to 5 working days, excluding the day of submission, weekends, and public holidays. However, some applications may take longer due to additional verification or during peak seasons. It's advisable to apply for your visa within 30 days prior to your intended arrival in Singapore to ensure it remains valid for your trip.

Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) for Indians

Indian nationals transiting through Singapore to or from a third country by air may be eligible for the 96-hour Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF). To qualify for VFTF, you must:

  • Have a valid onward air/ferry/cruise ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours.

  • Hold a valid visa (with at least 1 month validity from the date of entry into Singapore under VFTF) or long-term pass issued by Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America.

  • Meet other prevailing entry requirements.

If you are not eligible for VFTF and do not possess a valid Singapore visa, you will not be allowed to enter Singapore.

Important Notes

  • Visa is Pre-Entry Permission: Possession of a valid Singapore visa does not guarantee entry into Singapore. The final decision rests with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the point of entry. They will assess your suitability based on your passport, e-Visa, sufficient funds, and confirmed onward/return tickets.

  • e-Pass Notification: Upon successful entry, foreign visitors receive a digital "Visit Pass" (e-Pass) via email. This e-Pass indicates the period of stay granted and the last day of stay allowed. No physical endorsement will be made on your passport.

  • Accuracy is Key: Ensure all information provided is accurate and consistent across all documents. Any discrepancies can lead to refusal.
